ESSAY TIME YAAAY

Today in class the students began discussing their 5-paragraph essay about what mindset they are. They talked about what, when and where they were going to write this writing.

What; Their options of what they would write about were:
1-   an Informal essay on their personal experience with or as the mindset
2-   a formal essay critiquing the book

The students essay must include 4 quotations, the case numbers (1 from each chapter read) and 3 literary/terms, underlined. It should also be multiple pages.

When and where; The options of when and where they could write were:
1-  Only in class time, no homework from this.

Mr Hanlon got the students to share their thoughts about MINDSET
- Repetitive
- Long
- Informational

They were then asked to write a thesis about this. The students were asked to not contain the word because in their thesis as their essay would explain that. Underneath their thesis they had to write three points about what areas of life they are the different mindsets. For example in Science I am fixed mindset but when I am playing soccer I am a growth mindset.

Horrific

Mr Hanlon then just handed out a sheet of paper containing a horror story called ‘Here There Be Tygers’. Mr Hanlon then read it out and got the students to speak the characters voices.

He then asked the students’ to say their responses, some of them were:
- Why did they call the bathroom a basement?
- Why does Charles confuse the words bathroom and basement?
- Did Kenny and Miss Bird die?
- Was their actually a tiger there?
- Why did Charles just casually walk away?
- Did Charles kill Miss Bird and Kenny?
- Was ‘Tyger’ actually a tiger?
- If the tiger knew he was there why didn’t it go after him?
-  Did Charles put the tiger there?
-Why did Stephen King spell Tiger like ‘Tyger’ in the title?
- Does Charles actually become the Tiger?
-Did Charles imagined the whole thing?

Homework: - Write down the questions:  ‘Why is the word tiger spelt like ‘Tyger’ in the title?
                      And
Is the tiger actually him? And then were asked to answer the questions with their
                      own opinion.
                    - Read through notes
                    - Make sure all class-work is complete.

If you haven’t got half of your 15 assignments handed in you will be in school until 4PM tomorrow. GET YOUR HOMEWORK IN GUYS. You don’t want this to be you.

**Need help?

What is an essay?
A piece of writing on a particular subject.

What is a thesis?
a statement which declared what you believe and what you intend to improve. A good thesis statement makes the difference between a thoughtful research project and a simple retelling of facts.

Or feel free to ask me, Mr Hanlon or even the SLC
